3x3 Men's Tournament
Update October 1st
Based on the new Government advise and Basketball England guidelines:
This tournament is now officially cancelled.
As you might know, we’ve been hard at work since August trying to put together a proposal that our teams would enjoy and could bring us all back to the court safely.
Our 3x3 Tournament was planned and ready to go, but with COVID-19 cases in the UK growing by the week, and the general uncertainty affecting venues availability, makes it impossible for us to proceed with any tournament up to the organisational standards we have.
With 2020 coming to an end, Government rules becoming stricter by the day and all sports other than Elite being cancelled indefinitely, we decided to put a stop to all activities until 2021.
Basketball England is examining potential options for alternative forms of competition for non-elite adults. We hope further discussions between BE and the Government take place in order to reduce the devastating impact caused by recent new Covid-19 restrictions on indoor team sport.
This officially puts an end to our events for 2020, but we will focus on what we CAN do. So stay tuned for some really good news and content arriving in the coming weeks!
After yet another last-minute change of plans, we're happy to announce our 3x3 tournament that will run from October 11th 2020 to December 6th 2020. This will be our effort to provide teams a safe place to compete, following all the Government and Basketball England rules and guidance.
The more important rule in Basketball right now is “THE RULE OF SIX”, which prevents us from playing 5 on 5.
There can only be 6 players on a half-court, coaches, staff and officials are exempted and can be on the event as long as they wear a mask and stick to social distancing.
You can find the full breakdown for our 3x3 2020 Tournament below:
As per the above outline, we're aiming to have 20 teams for this tournament. As it’s a 3x3 tournament, each team has to have a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 players in their roster.
Each team has to come to a game with only 3 players, no more, as per the rule of 6. Check our FAQs here.
Teams will play 7 games of the regular season on the following dates: October 11th, October 18th, October 25th, November 1st, November 8th, November 15th, November 22nd.
The top 4 teams will advance to the playoffs and will play the semi-finals on November 29th.
The 2 winning teams from the semi-finals will play the Finals on December 6th.
All games will be played between 12 and 4pm at the Thunderdome (SE16 3LP).
Full rulebook of the tournament is here.
As we can't extend the tournament past December 2020, this might mean that your team won't play some of the other participating teams. If this was the case, we'll do our best to match the teams to make it fair for everyone, and teams from the same organisation will not play each other unless they get to the Playoff.
Most of our teams are actively recruiting players. If you're a player that's looking for a team to play in, we recommend that you become a Free Agent and contact one of our teams that will be doing tryouts in the coming months.
If your team is interested please contact us at [email protected] for further information. We will prioritise teams that played with us during Winter Season 2019/20, but we welcome new teams!
